Football Star

Jonas' first  organized football club:  Cliff Avenue United FC Jonas is very lucky to have  Tony Waiters as coach. He was coach of Canada's 1986 World Cup squad and more: Anthony Keith "Tony" Waiters is a former England international football goalkeeper and Canadian national football team head coach (manager). Waiters, who managed the Vancouver Whitecaps to an NASL championship, was in charge when Canada qualified for the 1986 World Cup finals, their only time in the finals. Waiters played club football with Macclesfield Town in the Cheshire County League, and league clubs Blackpool and Burnley. Waiters began coaching with the England national youth side and led them to a European Championship held in Italy (1973). He took over at Plymouth Argyle and lead them to the Third Division championship and promotion in 1975. He took over the Whitecaps midway through the 1977 season and lead them to an upset of the New York Cosmos en route to the Soccer Bowl N

Sweet September

Image

We are now 2!

Image
Where did the month of September go!  I always consider September, my New Years, more so than January 1st.  I love the start of school, the start of new recreation programs, new clothes, the colours of fall and everything else that comes with the start of a new school year.  Seems funny when the kids aren't even in school yet and Jonas' preschool goes all year round so it wasn't a change for him either.  And now we can include Nadia's Birthday as part of the highlights of September and why I love it so much! We were so lucky to have Auntie Drea and Uncle Ryan come and celebrate a few days earlier.  We filled the Birthday girls' day with a playdate with a little friend, the park, feeding the ducks, dinner at her favorite restaurant ( Wendy's) ...hopefully her tastes improve as she gets older! And then back home for presents and cake.  Jonas kept wondering when the kids were all coming for the party ( typical 4 year old who know how kids parties work!) However,

Boys & Girls of Summer

August started with Zee-zee coming to town for a visit and a week babysitting Nadia. Doctor checkups had Jonas at 36 lb and Nadia 24 lb - all normal except for Nadia's chronic eczema. As Mom went back home we headed to Kitimat to visit family and friends and the wedding of Ralph and Melissa. The Gibaldis were once again very gracious in allowing us to invade their premises - many thanks to all our favorite people  for their hospitality. Hi-lites of the trip included spending time/meals with many family and friends, trampolining, Jonas' first time riding a quad, first fishing trip and yes, Nadia's first poop on a potty! We definitely appreciate the unconditional love of our family and friends. A nasty case strep throat just days before coming home made for a rough flight home, though, for Amanda, and an extended recovery that followed.   Nadia is becoming more and more independent and willfull. She loves ice cream, her pajamas, asks to have them on whenever she can.

Little Update

Nadia Update: Loves her independance and her sleep time...very precise when she wants to be put to bed 1:15 and 7pm! Toys.....prefers crayons and paper, reading books, doing puzzles and being outside exploring.  Her new big delight...spray parks! Loves playing hide and seek and play wrestling with Daddy and Jonas in the evenings. She loves running thru the water and could be out there ALL day!  Tooth update: just broke thru #73 and #83....making it a total of 14 teeth.  Although we haven't measured her in a while, her legs seem to have sprouted in the last week and all her pants seem to have an awkward length to them! Loves to eat her sweets. Jonas Update:  Feet have sprouted to a size 10!  Loves to Dance and teach the rest of us his moves.  Has become much more confident in the water with his last set of swim lessons.....able to blow bubbles under the water for 5 seconds.  Loves to be at the playground and has become quite imaginative in his play.  Can be shy around adults and C

We are so proud of you, Jonas. Keep working hard and have fun!

Growing Garden

Image
The kids are growing like the flowers in the forests and fields outside our home. A Father's Day surprise was found with the tomatoes the kids helped plant: "Daddy's Growing Garden". Thanks to The Veer's for Nadia's very first tricycle - now her and Jonas can ride the park together. She loves her bike.

Little conquerors

About 2 weeks ago Jonas learned how to count to 100 and now can be heard counting out load around the house and in the car. He has begun spelling small words, learned the days of the week, and is from all indications doing well and enjoying preschool, thankfully. His instructors say he is quite sociable and popular with the kids. Nadia, likewise, is growing and learning at a geometric rate. She is able to put togther simple sentences and singing many songs. Nadia had her toenails spontaneously painted for the first time, by auntie Drea, last weekend in Kelowna - she calls them "cute" and "pretty". Her first question in the morning is often: "where's Jonas?", when leaving for daycare: "have a good day!" Needless to say we're blessed.

Happy Birthday Grandpa Bob!

Little Talker!

We are in awe of our little. almost 18 month old talker! She's been talking for a while but she can now count to 10 on her own and 20 with a little help, sing the ABC's all by herself, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Happy Birthday and more! As much as I'm bragging, I'm also making sure to record this so I can put it in our annual book. Our blog serves a few purposes! She's also breaking through 3 molars at the same time, ouch! ( 55, 65, 85) This is definitely bringing out her "whiney" stage...not very fun. Jonas is continuing to love preschool and is slowly sharing little bits of his day with us. Some of his charm includes kissing Nadia's forehead when he says goodnight

Our Schoolboy!

Image
March 5th Jonas officially started Preschool at In-Joy Montessori, near Dad's work. Our baby is goin' to school and seems to "en-joy" it. Dad, on his bike, is happily hauling Jonas, in his chariot (just like Ben-Hur) to school and then back home 3 days a week. Nadia still goes to Prima's house when Mommy goes to work. She misses her brother, saying "Jona, come!" and sadly, "Jona no come"

Whistler

Thanks again Dino for the excellent Whistler trip. We truly lucked out making it to the peak and riding both mountains in one day, awesome powder, bowls and leg burns!

Leaps and bounds

Image
Jonas and Nadia are growing by leaps and bounds. Jonas can skate on his own, more like a cautious shuffle, but he is still able to move down the ice. He loves hockey, swimming, soccer, riding his bike, the train, going to the park, watching races, kissing Nadia good night, and playing with his buddies - (Mommy's work interferes with this social life). He has been saying when he grows up he wants to be race car driver. He often surprises us with his abilities and language skills: puzzles, letters and numbers are easy for him now, left and right, dominos his favorite game and Cars card games. He can often be heard saying "I told you", "nice job Mommy/Daddy", "I need privacy/quiet time", loves popcorn and Wendy's burgers (an occasional treat) "my tummy's rumbling" then "my belly's full". Nadia's vocabulary includes many words, phrases and songs: Mu-mee, Da-dee, Jona, Grampa, Zeezee, Aunti, o-tay, foo (food), i-cream, pa

Chi Chi Zucarita de Cancun

Nothing beats the winter blues like sunny beach with Grandpa and Zeezee, Auntie Drea and Uncle Ryan, hammocks, Zucaritas, dancing shoes, serenade/stealing the show, sand castles, poolsides, daiquiris, cowboy hats, sombreros, siesta en la playa - muy bueno!

Winter Memories

Image
Some of the great memories from this winter: Santa, outdoor skating, Avosi and Avasi visiting (and taking care of us) just hangin' out, laughing out loud, skating lessons, great food, snow days, curling up with a good book, Canucks, pig tails, a new car, newer PJs, dancing shoes...

Just hanging out

Christmas Part II

Image
Yes, we're a bit late in the updates! Shows how our life has been over the last 4 weeks! If we were to rewind 4 weeks ago....let's see, enjoyed our Christmas traditions....baking Christmas cookies with Jonas, Van Dussen Gardens light show with the Pereiras, Christmas parties, Birthday celebrations and then the week before Christmas, Nadia was extremely sick. After having had no food for 5 days and very little liquids, we even ended up in the emergency for the evening. I had a little flashback (2 years back) when Jonas ended up in the emerg around Christmas with pneumonia, roseola, etc! Thankfully her illness didn't last long and we were off to Kelowna for a Christmas with the whole family. Auntie Drea and Uncle Ryan hosted us and Mom and Dad and we had a great time full of late nights, outdoor ice skating, eating and Christmas celebrations. Nadia and Jonas loved all the attention and definitely made Christmas that more special. Whether it was a book or Buzz Light Year, Jona
