Maui Wave Riders

Maui 2017, with Grandpa "Maui Jim", Zeezee, Drea, Ryan, Matias and Nya "baby ah-yeah!" The day we left to Maui it snowed a ton here so we built a snowman to watch the house.

Maui Day 1 (Sunday) - after delays taking-off and de-icing we arrived at our home-away-from-home in the wee hours of Sunday morning: Papakea, in Lahaina (actually Honokowai). Breakfast at Java Jazz then swimming at the pool - which would be regular event, while Mom and Drea buy groceries, barbecue time.

Day 2 - Maui Aquatic Centre then a heavy afternoon rain, The Shops at Wailea, Bubba Gump's in Lahaina for dinner.

Day 3 - Long drive up Mountain Haleakala (10,023 feet) but it was so rainy and windy we couldn't see anything so we came back down. We got some great views of the west side of the island - full sun. Shaved Ice at Maui's Beach House. Swim, then beach sunset.

Day 4 - Nakalele blowhole, Honolua Bay and Kannapali Beach.

Day 5 - Jonas and Dad surfing lessons at Maui Wave Riders, Lahaina. Our teacher PJ Gomez. A+ for both of us. Jonas surfed a wave for about 150 meters his very first try - awesome! I almost hit a wayward snorkeler - look out!. Baby beach.

Day 6 - Lahaina whale watching boat tour. Saw about 20 whales including an young whale breaching just in front of us, a few fin "waves" and a slapping tail. Baby beach. Sensai restaurant in Kapalua with the Mitchells.

Day 7 - Kona winds and heavy rains in the am. In the pm we visited Napili Bay beach and the turtles in nearby Honokeana Bay, stroll along Wailer's Village.

Day 8 - Last day: Paia Beach then a stroll through Paia, ice cream. We dropped off Grandpa and Zeezee at the airport - off to visit uncle Ken on the big island. Then we went for stroll on Hookipa Beach, watch the surfers, meet a monk seal sleeping on the beach, then back to Paia Beach for body surfing and one last sand blast!

Alas, we're home =( but planning the next great adventure!

We missed you too Tuxie - well.....not the biting.
